Sarah’s day took a turn
The simple pleasure of lounging in bed brought back memories of her younger days. Sarah found herself planning a perfect day of self-indulgence – perhaps a bubble bath, her favorite true crime documentary, and that novel she’d been meaning to start. The silence felt like a warm blanket. “Just five more minutes,” she murmured, sinking deeper into her pillow.
However, a few minutes later, she woke up to a strange sound…
“Is that…chattering?” she wondered aloud. The sound faded, and she tried to dismiss it as her imagination. But there it was again – a distinct chattering that seemed too close to be coming from the yard.
The noise grew more insistent, a high-pitched series of squeaks that demanded attention. Sarah sat up, suddenly alert. Her eyes darted around the room until they landed on the source. “The window – it’s coming from the window!” She pushed aside her covers and approached cautiously.
When she pulled the curtain aside, she couldn’t believe what she saw…
